MIGRATION TO DWARAKA

Post Kamsa's slay, Jarasandha, the powerful King of Magadha, was the father-in-law of Kamsa. He had a powerful army. He was angry with Krishna for killing Kamsa and was roused to fury by the distress of his daughters. He was determined to kill Krishna. He marched with a big army to Mathura. Krishna mobilised the Yadava youths.Jarasandha's army camped outside the fort. Krishna attacked the enemy's forces like lightning. The Magadha soldiers fled. Jarasandha was filled with shame. He invaded Mathura with a much bigger force. Several kings also joined him

Krishna's army met the enemy half way and attacked even before Jarasandha could reach Mathura. The Magadha forces were not prepared for this assault. In the confusion their own elephants crushed them. But again and again Jarasandha attacked Mathura and did so seventeen times. But how long could this kind of war go on? Krishna observed that the strength of the Yadavas was diminishing. It is not enough to fight heroically on the battlefield. When one is at a disadvantage one should retreat from the battlefield, and should strike again at the right moment and destroy the enemies. When the Magadha forces attacked for the seventeenth time Krishna led all his people to Dwaraka, by a secret route.

Krishna built Dwaraka to protect the Yadavas from Jarasandha. Dwaraka was surrounded by the sea. And it was  an impregnable fortress.

MARRIAGE WITH RUKMINI AND SLAY OF SHISUPALA:

Balaram married Revathi, the daughter of Prajapathi Raivata. Rukmini was the daughter of King Bhishmaka of Vidarbha. She was as beautiful as she was good. She had fallen in love with Krishna. She had the blessings of her father also. But her elder brother Rukmi would not listen to her. He argued that Krishna was the son of a cowherd and belonged to a low caste. He decided that she should marry a king, Shishupala by name. Rukmini wept in misery and sent word to Krishna. Krishna came to Vidarbha, put Rukmini in his chariot and made off for Dwaraka.

Rukmi the brother of Rukmini forced the wedding with the instigation and active support of Jaraasandha, Shishupala, Poundraka, Dantavaktra, Vithuratha, Shaalva and such others evil-mined enemy Kings who were all executed by Krishna eventually. Rukmi attacked Krishna and so did the soldiers of the enemy kings but the invincible Krishna took away as she was deeply in love with him. Rukmi took a vow not to enter Kundinapara City of Vidarbha Kingdom if he did not subdue or kill Krishna in the battles before the famed Rukmini- Krishna Elopment! Krishna and Rukmini holy wedding took place at Dwaraka with great pomp in the presence of the parents, foster parents, Balarama, Rukmini’s father Bhishmaka.

Shishupala or Sisupala was son of Damaghosha, king of Chedi, by Srutadeva, sister of Vasudeva; he was therefore cousin of Krishna. Shishupal was born with three eyes and four arms, and brayed like an ass. It was predicted that he would be normal when he sits on a person who is going to kill him.Shisupala was Krishna's cousin. When Krishna kept him in his lap, his two hands and third eye disappeared. Shisupala grew jealous of Krishna. Shisupala's mother got a promise from Krishna that he would not kill her son. Krishna promised that he would forgive hundred offenses by him. At the battlefield of Krukshetra, Krishna forgave his 100 insults and killed him when he offended him after the hundredth time.

MARRIAGE WITH SATYABHAMA AND SLAY OF NARAKASURA:

Satyabhama, Wife Of Lord KrishnaSatyabhama is the daughter of King Satrajit who is believed to be the incarnation of Bhudevi. Satrajit is the owner of Syamantaka jewel who does not part from it even once. Once Krishna asked for the jewel and Satrajit denied him. Prasena, brother of Satrajit went for hunting with the jewel and was killed by a lion.Satrajit got angry on Krishna mistaking him the killer of his brother for the jewel.  Krishna searched the jewel and found it with Jambhavan. Jambhavan mistook him to be a trespasser and both fought. Krishna defeated Jambhavan and took the jewel to Satrajit. Satrajit apologized for his acts and offered his daughter Satyabhama for marriage.

Narakasura was a demon king, ruling Pragjothishyapur. He gained a boon from Brahma that he would die only in the hands of his mother Bhudevi. Armed with the boon, he ruled like a despot. Even though Naraka was the son of divinity, he had the nature of a demon.  Naraka was powerful and he took pleasure in terrorising the inhabitants of the three worlds.

Narakasura captured Lord Indra and snatched sixteen women and imprisoned them in his palace.Satyabhama heard of this and got infuriated about this. Satyabhama and Krishna declared war against Narakasura. Satyabhama and Narakasura fought fiercely but Naraksura fought with great skills. Krishna pretend to faint on a attack by him which further angered Satyabhama. She doubled her strength and killed him. Naraksura requested a boon from her that his death should be celebrated with colorful lights which we celebrate as Deepavali.

Satyabhama freed all the sixteen thuosand captive women from palace. Krishna married all sixteen thousand of them to restore their honour which they lost on being kidnapped by Narakasura but never had any physical relationship with them. But it is also said that Krishna took 16008 forms and lived with all his wives in seperate palaces for each.
