A South-Indian Brahmin Wedding Ritual

Courtesy: SanathanaDharma.com

Many of my friends and colleagues are very interested to know about Brahmin wedding rituals. I present this article for them. Thanks to the website which helps to understand the meaning of these rituals to people.

These ceremonies are applicable mainly to South-Indian Brahmin community weddings only. Hardly (to my knowledge no)other community follow them. They have their own different set of rituals. But Mangalya Dharanam (tying Mangalya around Bride's neck by groom)is the common one as it is prime ceremony of the wedding. :-)

The thing which I like most in the Brahmin wedding is the bride's hairstyle
and Madisar costume. In Iyyengar wedding, a bride shall have a hairstyle of 'Aandal' (an Incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi - a lover/ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu in epic). To me it is most beautiful wedding dress in this world. Well all non-Iyyengar(including Iyer) brides are really missing that oppourtunity of being so beautiful. With a Naama (a striaght red line) in their forehead, Aandal haristyle and Madisar sarree, they will look so awesome.

SOUTH INDIAN BRAHMIN WEDDING

The Ritual of the Hindu Wedding too is each symbolic of beautiful and noble sentiments.

As you enter you see . . .

Full-grown plantain trees tied to both the gateposts – Eternal tree of evergreen plenty for endless generations!
Festoons overhead of mango leaves, and screw-pine petals that never fade!
Notes of the Nadaswaram, the South Indian Shehnai!
Kolam or Rangoli designs at the doorsteps – an artistic welcome!
At threshold of the hall, sprinklings of rosewater, offerings of flower, sandal batter, sugar candy!
THE EVENING PREVIOUS TO THE MARRIAGE DAY

USHERING-IN OF THE BRIDEGROOM

On the evening prior to the wedding day, the bridegroom is to be brought in a procession from a temple in a flower decorated car. He is escorted by the bride’s parents, and welcome at the marriage mandap, which is the bride’s abode. Nadaswaram band leads the way along the streets, the flower decorated car jam-packed with children.

This is a social function, called JANA VASAM in South India and BARAAT in North India.

Through such a parade, public approval is sought of the groom, chosen by the family.

After reaching the marriage hall, there is a formal ceremony of betrothal.

ON THE WEDDING DAY

THE PRELIMINARY INVOCATION

‘GANAPATI PUJA’
As in an inauguration of any function so also in a marriage – Ganapati, the God of Initiation is invoked, to keep away all impediments.

‘NANDI DEVATA PUJA’
There are several presiding deities – the Nandi Devatas. To propitiate them, a leaf-laden branch of the pipal tree is installed, and an ablution with milk is performed by five Sumangalis (housewife, with husband living). This puja is followed by a presentation of a dhothi, and a saree to the marrying couple.

‘NAVAGRAHA PUJA’
This is performed to propitiate the nine astral planets that rule over man’s destiny.

VRATHAM
The marriage ceremonies begin with the Vratham performed separately by the bride and the groom. For the bride, it means the tying of the KAPPU – the holy thread on her wrist which is meant to ward off all evil spirits. It symbolises a kind of the protective armour for the bride. For the groom, the various Gods – Indra, Soma, Chandra, Agni. From there on, the groom prepares himself for a new chapter in his life as a householder or Grihasta. The days of his bachelorhood or brahmacharya are now over and the acceptance of this is all what the Vratham is about.

‘KASI YATRA’
This a very important part of the ceremony. Immediately after his student-life, the young bachelor has two alternatives before him – Married life ( Grihasta ) or asceticism ( Sanyas ). Being by nature escapist, he prefers the ascetic life to the tribulations of married life. He therefore ‘makes his way’ to kasi (VARANASI), complete with slippers, umbrella, bamboo fan etc. On his way, the bride’s father intervenes and advises him of the superiority of married life to ascetic life. He also promises to give him his daughter as companion to face the challenge of life. The umbrella is to remain with groom, to remind him in the future, of this advice.the real tradition.

(However there are different view points on this aspect. Given below is an observation by Sri. Narayan of Malaysia :

During the wedding ceremony the groom is welcomed as Mahavishnu Svarupaya varahaya ie maha vishnu himself ( or the Siva the equivalent in the Adi Saiva tradition ) and the bride as Lakshmi. Thence , it is imperative he knows no sin, thence he needs to perform a yatra to kashi , submerge in Ganges and comes and does the wedding purified.

In the days of yore , when a man after education takes a yatra like this ( it takes up some months, sometimes a year on foot) , he gets to see the world , otherwise which he would not have been exposed to , thence from Brahmacharya , before moving to grahasta ashrama he come experienced and purified, disiplined ( goal oriented) and fit to take up the challenges of married life. And those days the groom would have been engaged ( nischya dartha) , and proceeds on this yatra and is welcomed back after the father in-law etc after coming back, with this words Maha Vishnu Svarupaya, and given the kanya dhana.

Samnyasa and Grathasta ashrama are both pillars of the society , which is still relevant and have positive contributions to society. This has to be clearly understood.

Narayan, Malaysia )

‘VAAKU NICHAYA MUHOORTHAM’
At the marriage hall, the bride’s father and the bridegroom’s father facing each other, solemnise the final betrothal ceremony, the vedic priest chanting the relevant hymns-in which the names of the bride, the bridegroom, as well as the names of their three generations of ancestors, are cited in presence of friends, relatives, and invitees.

The manthras say : "O God Varuna, Be she harmless to my brothers and sisters! Oh Brihaspathi! May she no evil to her husband! O Lord Indra! Bless her to be a good guardian of her children! O Surya! Bless her with all wealths! "

EXCHANGE OF GARLANDS
The bride and the groom are lifted to the shoulders of their respective uncles; and in that position the two garland each other thrice for a complete union. A garland worn by a person, should not be used by another, ordain our shastras. Here the exchange of garlands symbolises their unification – as one soul in two bodies. It is inward acceptance by each of the very fragrance of the other.

‘OONCHAL’

SWING, RIDE AND SINGING OF LAALI
Then, the marrying couple is seated on a swing ( OONCHAL); they rock forth and back, as the ladies around sing – LAALI, songs to praise to the couple. The chains of the swing signify the eternal Karmic link with Almighty above; the to-and-fro motion represent the undulating sea-waves of life; yet, in mind and body they shall move in harmony unperturbed, steady and stable.

‘PAALIKAI’ SEEDS SOWING
This is fertility rite. Paalikais are earthen pots prepared a day earlier – pots spread at the base with hariali grass and Bael leaves (Vilvam); nine kinds of pre-soaked cereals are ceremonially sown in these pots by Sumangalis. After the marriage, the sprouted seedlings are released in a river or pool. This ritual invokes the blessings of the eight-direction-quartered guardian angles, for a healthy life and progeny to the couple.

‘VARA PUJA’
The feet of the bridegroom is washed in milk, and wiped off with silk.

Water, and lighted lamps are circulated around the swing in order to guard the couple against demons and ghosts.

Coloured globules of cooked rice are waved in circular motion, and thrown away – to propitiate the evil spirits.

‘KANYA DHAANAM’
The bride is made to sit on her father’s lap and is given away as gift by him, to the bridegroom.

On the girl’s head, a ring made with Kusa, the sacred grass called DARBHA, is placed, and over it, is placed a yoke; the Gold Mangal Sutra ( or THAALI ) is placed right on the aperture of the yoke, and water is poured through the aperture. The Mantras chanted at this time, say:

"Let this gold multiply your wealth! Let this water purify your married life, and may your prosperity increase. Offer yourself to your husband! "

The bride then is given an auspicious ablution, and an exclusive new KOORAI Saree is draped around her – this is done by the sister of the bridegroom.

To bride in her new saree, a belt made of reed-grass is tied around the waist. The manthras chant:

"She standeth here, pure before the holy fire, as one blessed with boons of a good mind, a healthy body, life-long companionship of her husband ( Sumangali Bhagyam ) and children with long life. She standeth as one who is avowed to stand by her husband virtuously. Be she tied with this red-grass rope, to the sacrament of marriage! "

Thanks giving vedic hymns follow to the celestial caretakers of her childhood: the Deities of SOMA, GANDHARVA and AGNI. Having attained nobility, the girl is now free to be given over to the care of the human – her man.

The Vedic concepts underlying this ritual is figuratively this: that in her infant stage, SOMA had given her coolness of the moon, and strength; in the next stage, GANDHARVA had given her bodily beauty; and lastly AGNI gave her passions.

The father of the bride, while offering his daughter chants: "I offer ye my daughter, a maiden virtuous, good-natured, very wise, decked with ornaments to the best of my ability-; that she shall guard the Dharma, Wealth, and Love! "

THE BRIDEGROOM’S ASSURANCE
Thus offering her daughter, her father gets a word of assurance three times that the bridegroom shall remain for ever her companion in joy and sorrow – in this life, and after death too!

‘KANKANA DHARANAM’
The bride ties a string fastened to a piece of turmeric, around the wrist of the bridegroom – to bind themselves by a religious vow. It is only after tying the Kankanam that the bridegroom gets the right to touch the bride. A little later, the bridegroom ties a Kankanam on the bride’s wrist.

‘MAANGALYA DHARANAM’
Next, timed to exact auspicious hour, is the tying of the Mangala Sutra ( Thaali ). The bride seated over a sheaf of grain-laden hay, looking eastward, and the bridegroom facing westward, ties the gold Mangala Sutra around the neck of the bride. As he does so, the Nadaswaram drums are beaten loud and fast, so as to muffle any inauspicious sounds at the critical hour. This is called Getti Melam; as it sounds, the Sumangali ladies sing "GOURI KALYANAME, VAIBHOGAMAY! "

Three knots are tied – the first one by the bridegroom, the other two knots by his sister to make the bride a parts of the boy’s family. The Vedic hymn recited by the bridegroom when he ties the knot, is: " Praying the Almighty that I be blessed with a long life, I tie this knot around your neck, oh soubhaygavati, may providence bestow on you a fulfilling life of a ‘Sumangalis’ for a hundred years to come! "

‘PAANI GRAHANAM’
This means "holding hands". The groom holds the hand of the bride. The Manthras say: The Devas have offered you to me in order that I may live the life of a householder ( GRIHASTA ); we shall not part from each other even after we grow old! "

‘SAPTHA PADHI’
Holding the bride’s hand, the bridegroom walks seven steps with her. This is the most important part of the marriage ceremony, and only when they walk seven steps together ( i.e. perform SAPTHA PADHI ) is the marriage complete legally. The belief is that when one walks 7 steps with another, one becomes the another’s friend. The manthras recited then, mean: "Ye who have walked seven steps with me, become my companion, where by I acquire your friendship. We shall remain together inseparable. Let us make a vow together; we shall share love, share the same food, and share the strength, the same tastes. We shall be of one mind, we shall observe the vow together. I shall be the SAMA, you the RIG: I shall be the Upper World, you the earth; I shall be the SUKHILAM, you the HOLDER – together we shall live, beget children, and other riches, come thou, O sweet-worded girl! "

‘PRADHAANA HOMAM’
A crucial part of the wedding is the homage paid by the couple to AGNI, the fire- God. They circle around the fire, and feed it with ghee, and twigs of nine types of trees, as sacrificial fuel. The fumes that arise, are supposed to possess medicinal, curative and cleansing effects on the bodies of the couple.

AGNI, the mightiest power in the cosmos, the sacred purifier, the all-round benefactor, is deemed as a witness to the marriage (AGNI SAAKSHI )

TREADING ON THE GRINDSTONE
Holding the bride’s left foot toe, the bridegroom helps her tread on a grindstone kept on the right side of the fire. The Manthras says: "Mount up this stone. Let thy mind be roc-firm, unperturbed, by the trials and tribulations of life! "

SHOWING HER THE "ARUNDHATI " STAR
Next he shows her the Star ARUNDHATI ( of the SAPTHA RISHI Constellation ), as also DHRUVA the polestar. Arundhati, the wife of VASISHTA Mahrishi, is exemplified as an ideal wife, the embodiment of chastity. DHRUVA is the one who attained immortality through single-minded devotion and perseverance – virtues to be emulated through out married life.

‘LAAJA HOMAM’
This shall comprise the bride’s own offering to the sacrificial fire. As she is forbidden to do it herself, her brother helps her. He gives her a handful of parched rice grains which she hands to bridegroom who on her behalf, feeds it into the fire. Through this food offering, the bride seeks a long life for her husband, and propagation of the family. Participation of the bride’s family members indicates the continuance of links between the two families, even after marriage. The couple circle around the fire, three times, and the feeding of the fire with parched rice, is repeated thrice.

SHOWERING OF ‘AKSHADAI’
Akshadai, i.e. rice-grains coated with turmeric and saffron, are showered on the couple, by elders and invitees – as benediction.

‘GRIHA PRAVESAM’
Taking with her, fire from the Laaja Homam, the bride takes leave of her home, and enters the new home of her in-laws. The vedic hymns now sound likes the mother’s words of advice to her daughter: "Be the queen of your husband’s home. May your husband glorify your virtues; conduct yourself in such a way that you win your mother-in-law’s love, and be in the good books of your sister’s-in-law."

‘NALUNGU’
The evening of the marriage day is the time to relax and play. The newly wed wife calls her husband for play, inviting him through a song. Much to the merriment of one and all gathered, there follows list of playful items: the bride anointing the groom’s feet with colour paste ; fanning him, showing him a mirror; breaking papads over each other’s head; wrenching the betel pack from each other’s hand; rolling the coconut from one to another as in ball-play; and so on. During these items, the ladies sing songs poking fun at the bride, groom and the in-laws.

These events brings out many qualities of the bride and the groom – sporting spirit, kindness, strength, co-operative nature etc.

THE NIGHT TIME HOMAMS

THE JAYAATHI HOMAM – is performed to propitiate the Gandharvas and deities.
PRAVESA HOMAM – is done to solemnise the bride’s entry in to the husband’s home. The sacrificial fire is brought along by the bride.
SESHA HOMAM – is Fire oblation with the residual ghee, a little of which is sprinkled on the bride’s head four times.
THAAMBOOLA CHARVANAM & BALA DHAANAM
The girl’s brother gives the ceremonial first betel to the couple to chew. Certain other gifts are made to bless the couple with children and long life.

MANGALA ARATHI
A solution of lime and turmeric powder, and in colour, is prepared on a plate, and circled around, and thrown away to ward off evil eye. This is done a number of times during the entire wedding ceremony, and at the end.

SHANTI MUHOORTHAM
The consummation of the marriage at night – the nuptials!

I don't understand why IT Companies are like this

I really don't understand why IT companies are killing their employees.

Today (17th August 2011), I went to training in a HCL facility located at Navalur. Totally I got Rs.700 wasted for my transport. I cannot blame anybody becoz without knowing about the place, I myself volunteered to attend the training.

The facility is approximately 35 to 40 kms from my home. I started from my home at 8.00 am, calculating the traffic I thought I will reach the training hall by 9.20 am . Did I made any mistake or the Chennai city traffic is unpredictable like Chennai rain, when I reached the hall it was around 10.35 am. One hour delay for the training session.

I took a call taxi to go there. Everything was fine until the beginning of 'IT Express Way'. Hardly it took 20 minutes from my home to reach the area. I was very happy, that I will be on time for training.

When Man proposes something and if it happens perfectly, then why the hell we need God?

Signal, Traffic Jam, Signal, Traffic jam, Traffic jam, traffic Jam, Signal etc etc etc... After 16 traffic jams and 9 signals (approx), I successfully(frustatingly) reached the place.

But I thought of one thing. From my home alone, that place is about 40km. Then what about people who live farther than my place.

Just because, a company pays its employees, is there any rule that they can kill them alive in any way they want.

After a loooooonnnnnnnngggggg journey to their office, how are the employees are working?

To the worst, there is office hours of 9 hours. So 9 hours and to & fro journey hours, totally 2/3rd of the day is swallowed for office alone. Rest there will be time to and sleep, wake up, dress up then run again.

Really I am very sorry for the people who are all running distant places to make their living. Are all people afford to buy a home near their workplace? Do all people have money to spend for a Car? (Already traffic jam is in peak.)

IT companies are monsters, demons, devils which kill their people in the traffic of Chennai city.

May be cities like Mumbai, Bangalore and all will be like hell I think. No comments about cities worser than this.

Day-by-day suffering of people to make a living increases.

It will be very nice if any apocalypse comes to make the end of the world.I am eagerly waiting for a giant comet or meteorite to welcome to Earth. No traffic, No office, No Recession, No Appraisal.

May be HELL has shifted its base to Earth I think.

The Connotation of "WHY" - a Rheotorical term

W H Y

Just a three letter word. But a magic word. A human being born in this planet can possibly to some extent be able to answer
"What"s
"When"s
"Where"s
"Which"s
"Who"s

But I bet he cannot answer for "Why"s. When he tries to answer for one "Why" he in turn gives birth to 10 "why"s and those 10 "why"s to another 100 "why"s and so on.

Example 1:
Why this world is light and dark?
A: Sun rises and sets

Why sun rise and set?
A: Earth is rotating itself.

Why earth rotates? (Eg:Because it has no work. Why it has no work?....)
......

Example 2:
Who am I?
A: I am a woman

Why you are a woman?
A: My genes are programmed to be woman

Why your genes are programmed to be woman?
A: .....

Example 3:
Why did I born?
A:...

Example 4:
How we survive?
A: By breathing O2

Why we breathe Oxygen not Nitrogen or Hydrogen or any other 'gen's?
A: ..........

I guess nobody can answer this questions.:-)

Anybody knows for the questions left blank please post it. But be ready to answer for my next 'why'.

Even sometimes a human will not be able to answer the other "W"s.

Who created this universe?
What was before BIG BANG explosion?

Now what time can be answered but "What is a TIME?" cannot be answered.
When TIME started and when will it end?
A Time starts when you spectator sees/does something and stops when spactator stops to see/do that something. There is no time but only TIME SPAN. Time shall exist till the spectator/doer exist.

There is one statement in Tamil

"PAAR PAVAN ILLAI ENDRAL PARKA PADUVATHUM ILLAI PARKAPADUVATHUVUM ILLAI" Meaning when a spectator does not exist spectating will not exist and spectate action will not exist.

Back to WHY:

We as humans do not extend our WHY questions unless we are sure we will be benefitted. Once we are satisifed with our gains our WHYs stop there.

That's why, WHY questions are Rheotorical questions. Meaning, only question is there but no answer.

It is not that it cannot be answered. But our brain's thinking has not extended to answer them. A human brain only utilises 5 to 7% of itself. Even an intelligent person uses that much only. With 7% content, upto what we can think and answer?

Do anyone know 'WHY' we use only 5% of brain?
.........

Again blank answer. I am not sure if man can find answer for these questions atleast before the last second of extinction.

Do not throw your driver and struggle like me

Well you all think I have thrown my car driver out of job and struggling for transportation. Not really

Well that struggle can be tolerated but I have thrown away my driver software of my webcamera and doing nothing but sit and shout.

You may ask. Why the hell? Google and get your driver software. But I found a thing, it is easy to fetch a driver for car from google but not the driver software of my web camera.

One year back, I bought a webcam HYTECH HT5520 model, as my father is abroad and me & my mom can have video chat with him. I installed the driver and using it. The product was very good. I cannot deny. But the biggest mistake which I have done is, I lost the driver disk. I did not care about it that time. I did not take back up of the disk into my system too. Why to waste a disk?

After a while, I formatted my machine and the driver for the webcam got washed away. Then I did not even think about the webcam. Recently, I thought of having test video chat with my smartphone and desktop using skype. Then only I realised , the driver software is not with me.

No problem. Just like that I went to Google, searched for the software with keywords 'hytech ht5520 driver download'. About 13000 results came but none had what I want. I went to Hytech website but they did not publish the software there instead instructed to drop a mail for that. I did the same. Till now I did not get any reply.

For the past one week to 10 days I am searching searching searching. Search only going on. Nothing else.

My father used to make back ups for everything he gets. He repeatedly insisted me to that. That time, I was irritated by that torture. But now I feel, my father is correct. Had I done what he said, there will not be any regrets

There are things which we will struggle to get even if we have money. I have money to buy the software but I don't know who will have that. My camera is now like a showcase piece.

Nowadays computer accessories are in plug and play mode. But my cam is still a Tipu Sultan period product which asks for driver.

My sincere suggestion to all people who read this. Don't ever think we can download anything we want. We can download things which is available in Internet and not which does not have.

1. So have a back up of all software which you have. No matter how easily it can be got from net.

2. Keep your driver disks original safe.

3. Do not buy HYTECH product. Their support is very worst. WORST is an ordinary word. Very^Infinity worst.

Throw your engine driver even but not your electronic product driver.

Think when no power - A Million Dollar question

One week end, there was no power at my house. I had nothing to do but only to think like below:

Firstly.. In what way I am rewarded when I take responsibility which does not benefit me in any way.Definitely not a good name. It is a bitter and practical truth. But I am charged for taking the responsibility. What is making them ask (Eg:) Did I ask to take this work. Who asked you to do this. Face the consequence. (Am I a mad then)

Next . When I admit my mistake what is making the people to take an oppurtunity to turn it as my negative. Eg: You never do things perfectly like how u did last time. (NO matter if the mistake is anyway related to my previous mistake)

Next.. why in this world has not even single person (apart from my parents) to appreciate my good actions. But they invite themself to criticise me as if I know only to do mistakes and blunders. What is making them forget the correct things which I do/did. Eg: What u r having is not nice to you. (They never care to look what I have/how I look)

Next... I help a person in some case. I don't expect them to remember my help which I did to them. What is making them to forget me in a second.

Next.. I want to help a person whom I think is in need for help. They are eagerly accepting it too. What is making them to think I am jobless and that is why I have more time to help.

Next.. All are queens and kings to themselves. Fine. All are pricesses/princes to their parents. Good. What is making them to think they are prince/king or queen/princess to this whole world and others are servant to them? Even when I did not promise in writing that I will sacrifice my life as their servant.

Next.. All are doing their best to survive in this world. What is making people to think they are only struggling in this world with problems and others are happy in their life.

What is making me to think all people in this world are not good especially not good to me and write all this in my blog?

God only knows the answer for this million dollar question.

Act like a Professional in Office... Not silly and stupid.... An Irritating circumstance

Well today I am writing this with utmost irritation and annoyance.

Last Monday night around 9 pm when I was browsing the internet, I got a message in my mobile with 'Hi'. It is from unknown number.

The big mistake which I did is, I replied with 'Who is dis?'. I am feeling bad each and every minute for it.

Message conversation went like this. (i hv tried to give exact words of my conversation as far as I remember. But concept is same)

Unknown: Are you my friend?

Me: I don't think so. What is your name and your friend's name?

Unknown: Well you are my friend. You dont know me but I know you.I wanted to be your friend

Me: Well I think you are looking for wrong person. I think I am not the one you are looking for.

Unknown: I know you are a great engineer in HCL.

Me: My God.. who are you? How do u know me. But I believe you are also an HCLite. I never share my number to anybody.

Unknown: Yes I also work in HCL. I have seen you quite and calm. I want to be friend. If you are my good friend one day I ll show myself.

I got annoyed. But since the person seemed to be my colleague, I wanted to know who is he. Since he said he will tell about himself only I accept his friendship, I said 'accepted'

But I did not get any information about that stupid.

I asked my colleagues by showing the number to them. But they cannot either catch the person. One of my colleague tried to call him. But phone was switched off. Monday eve I got a meesage

Unknown: 'Did u find me?'

Well he thought that I have no other business in this world other than to find him. He is not at all ready to tell who is he.

The next day he messaged 'I know you enquire about me to your friends'
Next shock. So the culprit is somewhere around me. My colleagues are more eager to see the person as I am.

Next day,

He said 'I saw you. You also saw me today'. Well after this incident I started to look out all the guys crossing me.

Well he was able to tell the colour of my dress with design in it.

From above incident what I try to convey is, if you don't have any work why are you disturbing others. It looks ackward when one play's hide and seek not for any valid reason.

I cannot judge the person's attitude, what he is expecting from me. My colleagues are saying some girl is doing it for fun. But I don't have any such friend in girls intimate enough to play like this. I am sure this is a guy.

I am always open to good friendship if I find the person trust worthy. But unless I look him in person he cannot win my trust. No guy in this world can earn my friendship without getting trusted. Not only mine but most of the women. Becoz nobody wants to get into trouble.

One thing I would like to establish. My parents are not strict but when it comes to my life decision, they wanted me to get married only to a vaishnavate brahmin man. I have no other go other than to opt this since I dont want to spoil their wish being the only child and only daughter of them. Actually speaking I would rather prefer that option.

So guys, you really need not scare of me. I will not trap you in any relationship and/or deceive you later. I can say I am real trust worthy woman.

Dont' be stupid and silly. Act like professionals. No only to guys but also to all women. If you want to be friend of someone, better go to them and befriend them else keep quiet. Do not annoy others.

All people are not alike. Everyone do not encourage this. If you time is bad, they person whom u r annoying can go to the extent of complaining to management.

My team members told me to stop replying. My mother also told me to do this. So I stopped to reply. He messaged whle I was travelling in bus. I dint reply him becoz I was in a crowded bus. So he got angry and told he will not disturb me here after.

I was very happy that some silly stupid thing has been stopped. But my happiness did last only upto next day evening. He started again.

What to do?

Moral : Trust a person fully or do not trust at all. Don't be half baked and bake others.

To the concerned person: If you read this post, I like to say one thing.
"Either show who you are or stop everything."

Other who read this post suggest me:

What can I do?

1. Complain to management
2. Change my SIM
or
3. Any other (please specify)

Tailors are nowadays becoming thieves - Beware of your dresses

This is one of my bad experiences with tailors.

I bought a silk cotton sarree two months back. It is a very nice black saree with workings and border. I really loved to wear it. It has got an attached blouse.

I am not a fashionable woman. All these days I have been very simple. To say somewhat better than ugly. So I decided to stitch it in a fashionable manner but decent.

My mother who is working as Postal Assisstant in T.Nagar Head Post Office has very good network of friends and colleagues. One of them recommended a tailor in T.Nagar Fathima Plaza, Pondy bazaar, named Lucky tailors. He has many customers from Kollywood too. We thought of giving to him since he can stitch me a nice fashinable blouse.

I know to take measurements of blouse for a woman as I have some knowledge in tailoring. But I don't have practice for stitching a blouse. Since it required to take measurements from prohibited places, I wanted my mom to accompany me. (As I already had some embrassing measurement experience for Salwar). The male tailor usually measures for women. As scared he took measurements. But since my mom was near me I was OK.

He told the measurements need some extra bit of cloth to stitch as per my requirement. We agreed. He also instructed to leave sarree to stitch falls. He charged around Rs.400/- for blouse and falls. My mom said ok. But I felt very costly. What to do when we go to tailors who stitches for movie stars I have to pay that. But after this blouse I took a woe that I never go back to him in my lifetime.

I had already had some bad experience that never gives back the cloth in time. My father persuaded me that it is their practice. You have to beg and get back your clothes. I repeatedly insisted him to give the blouse in the time he specified. He nodded the head like elephant.

I contacted him three days after the due date. First shock, he told I didn't had any job of blouse in past three weeks. (A month before I gave him the cloth). I explained the full sarree structure and blouse. Then after a long time he said. Yes I have a sarree like that. Well I will hand over in a week's time. I got my breathe back.

Again after ten days, my mom went to him. He said there was shortage of staffs and please give him some more time. He asked get back in three days. I went to him after five days on a Saturday. I gave him the card. He looked at me. Again asked for the sarree. Anger was about to explode in me. Patiently I explained again. He took the sarree. Thank god sarree was there. But Blouse?

"There was no blouse at all in your sarree. How can we stitch it?". This was the reply I got from him.

One of greatest shock I ever had. While we went to him to stitch the blouse, this stupid is the one who shown us, the attached blouse and told he will need extra bit of cloth to stitch according to my requirement. Now this idiotic old ***** man talks like this.

That is it!!!!

I shouted like anything. He started to argue with me that the sarree never had blouse in it. He was trying to make fool of me. I called my mother to confirm whether it had blouse. She said yes. I confidently fought with that bloody old man for my blouse. But all totally my waste of energy. He is not ready to accept I had given the sarree with blouse.

A Total loss of blouse and time for me.

Well if you go to the tailors, see to it if they note down that blouse was given along with sarree. Ask them to write down in the note book where they note down the measurements.

Please do not go to the tailor in LUCKY TAILORS, FATHIMA PLAZA, 1st FLR,PONDY BAZAAR, CHENNAI - 600017 and lose your cloth.

If you go there, make sure your cloth is insured (if any insurance for clothes is available)

You are entering your home after 10 days vacation of International tour. When you open the door you see a shocking scene which you have not imagined ... It is not a theft... But....

This happened to me recently when I came back from my vacation after 10 days.

My father is working in Muscat, Oman. He came to home after on a vacation for 20 days and returned back with us. We had lots of enjoyment and fun in our trip as it is first time for me and my mom to visit abroad. We were futher more happy because, the company where my father works, provided us a Five star hotel room like accomodation for the days we stayed there. So what will stop us to enjoy? Unlimited enjoyment for our family. We had good time with the facilities provided for us.

We thought we are very lucky to have a tension free and hurdle free life. If whatever thought by man happens, then why we need a God. He let us to have a nice trip as he only knew that a big problem is waiting for us.

We arrived Chennai on a Sunday morning after a non-slept night. So we planned to take a rest for full day.

When we were about to open our lock our neighbbour told us something unusual is in our home. He showed us a wet outside wall which also smelt badly. Wet wall scared me as I thought the tap in our home has not been closed and all water was spilled. Those incident happened to our home two times. But I cannot understand what is the reason for bad smell. I opened the lock and then the door.

When door opened I was about to slip as the floor was very wet. Hall smelt like garbage. Me and my mom were in surprise. But when we opened the kitchen....

My Goodness I will not forget the scene forever... A drainage upto 1 feet was stagnated there. We were taken aback by the situation. Our neighbours started to see that like a show. Well 'Mini Coovum' ran in our house from Kitchen to bathroom through our hall. My mother started to weep and I was scared how we are going to clean this. We lost our sleep already and now.

Actually a drain pipeline runs from top to bottom carrying the drains of the house from second floor to ground through first floor. We live in floor 1. There was a drain lock below the first floor. So the drains of the second floor has no outlet other than our kitchen.

Horrible. No one in the world was there to help us. So my mom started to clean. I helped my best. And after 4 hours all drainage was drained. But the bad smell remaind for one week.

We imagined of two situations which made us to scare more.

Imaginary situation 1: We returned in 10 days. The stagnated drain is of just two days. What if 10 days drain was stagnated?

situation 2: In recent past, due to increased crime trend, when some bad smell comes from a locked home, is it not a danger. Had we not returned in 10 days, the smell would have increased and neighbours would have informed to police. There is nothing fische. But will it be nice when our house is broken by cops for suspicion

Moral:

It is not advisible to leave the home un occupied even for 10 days. When we plan to settle some where, it is better to bring reliable tenants and place them to care of our home. For short trips we must give the home key to trustable neighbours so that they will inform us of the worst situation.

Hope it will work.
