This happened to me recently when I came back from my vacation after 10 days.
My father is working in Muscat, Oman. He came to home after on a vacation for 20 days and returned back with us. We had lots of enjoyment and fun in our trip as it is first time for me and my mom to visit abroad. We were futher more happy because, the company where my father works, provided us a Five star hotel room like accomodation for the days we stayed there. So what will stop us to enjoy? Unlimited enjoyment for our family. We had good time with the facilities provided for us.
We thought we are very lucky to have a tension free and hurdle free life. If whatever thought by man happens, then why we need a God. He let us to have a nice trip as he only knew that a big problem is waiting for us.
We arrived Chennai on a Sunday morning after a non-slept night. So we planned to take a rest for full day.
When we were about to open our lock our neighbbour told us something unusual is in our home. He showed us a wet outside wall which also smelt badly. Wet wall scared me as I thought the tap in our home has not been closed and all water was spilled. Those incident happened to our home two times. But I cannot understand what is the reason for bad smell. I opened the lock and then the door.
When door opened I was about to slip as the floor was very wet. Hall smelt like garbage. Me and my mom were in surprise. But when we opened the kitchen....
My Goodness I will not forget the scene forever... A drainage upto 1 feet was stagnated there. We were taken aback by the situation. Our neighbours started to see that like a show. Well 'Mini Coovum' ran in our house from Kitchen to bathroom through our hall. My mother started to weep and I was scared how we are going to clean this. We lost our sleep already and now.
Actually a drain pipeline runs from top to bottom carrying the drains of the house from second floor to ground through first floor. We live in floor 1. There was a drain lock below the first floor. So the drains of the second floor has no outlet other than our kitchen.
Horrible. No one in the world was there to help us. So my mom started to clean. I helped my best. And after 4 hours all drainage was drained. But the bad smell remaind for one week.
We imagined of two situations which made us to scare more.
Imaginary situation 1: We returned in 10 days. The stagnated drain is of just two days. What if 10 days drain was stagnated?
situation 2: In recent past, due to increased crime trend, when some bad smell comes from a locked home, is it not a danger. Had we not returned in 10 days, the smell would have increased and neighbours would have informed to police. There is nothing fische. But will it be nice when our house is broken by cops for suspicion
Moral:
It is not advisible to leave the home un occupied even for 10 days. When we plan to settle some where, it is better to bring reliable tenants and place them to care of our home. For short trips we must give the home key to trustable neighbours so that they will inform us of the worst situation.
