This is one of my bad experiences with tailors.
I bought a silk cotton sarree two months back. It is a very nice black saree with workings and border. I really loved to wear it. It has got an attached blouse.
I am not a fashionable woman. All these days I have been very simple. To say somewhat better than ugly. So I decided to stitch it in a fashionable manner but decent.
My mother who is working as Postal Assisstant in T.Nagar Head Post Office has very good network of friends and colleagues. One of them recommended a tailor in T.Nagar Fathima Plaza, Pondy bazaar, named Lucky tailors. He has many customers from Kollywood too. We thought of giving to him since he can stitch me a nice fashinable blouse.
I know to take measurements of blouse for a woman as I have some knowledge in tailoring. But I don't have practice for stitching a blouse. Since it required to take measurements from prohibited places, I wanted my mom to accompany me. (As I already had some embrassing measurement experience for Salwar). The male tailor usually measures for women. As scared he took measurements. But since my mom was near me I was OK.
He told the measurements need some extra bit of cloth to stitch as per my requirement. We agreed. He also instructed to leave sarree to stitch falls. He charged around Rs.400/- for blouse and falls. My mom said ok. But I felt very costly. What to do when we go to tailors who stitches for movie stars I have to pay that. But after this blouse I took a woe that I never go back to him in my lifetime.
I had already had some bad experience that never gives back the cloth in time. My father persuaded me that it is their practice. You have to beg and get back your clothes. I repeatedly insisted him to give the blouse in the time he specified. He nodded the head like elephant.
I contacted him three days after the due date. First shock, he told I didn't had any job of blouse in past three weeks. (A month before I gave him the cloth). I explained the full sarree structure and blouse. Then after a long time he said. Yes I have a sarree like that. Well I will hand over in a week's time. I got my breathe back.
Again after ten days, my mom went to him. He said there was shortage of staffs and please give him some more time. He asked get back in three days. I went to him after five days on a Saturday. I gave him the card. He looked at me. Again asked for the sarree. Anger was about to explode in me. Patiently I explained again. He took the sarree. Thank god sarree was there. But Blouse?
"There was no blouse at all in your sarree. How can we stitch it?". This was the reply I got from him.
One of greatest shock I ever had. While we went to him to stitch the blouse, this stupid is the one who shown us, the attached blouse and told he will need extra bit of cloth to stitch according to my requirement. Now this idiotic old ***** man talks like this.
That is it!!!!
I shouted like anything. He started to argue with me that the sarree never had blouse in it. He was trying to make fool of me. I called my mother to confirm whether it had blouse. She said yes. I confidently fought with that bloody old man for my blouse. But all totally my waste of energy. He is not ready to accept I had given the sarree with blouse.
A Total loss of blouse and time for me.
Well if you go to the tailors, see to it if they note down that blouse was given along with sarree. Ask them to write down in the note book where they note down the measurements.
Please do not go to the tailor in LUCKY TAILORS, FATHIMA PLAZA, 1st FLR,PONDY BAZAAR, CHENNAI - 600017 and lose your cloth.
If you go there, make sure your cloth is insured (if any insurance for clothes is available)
